Spanish Immersion Day – CSEC oral examination practice
Category: Support for Spanish (Teaching and Learning)
Spanish Immersion Day – CSEC oral examination practice held in Kingston, Clarendon, Manchester and St James with the support of the National Spanish Teachers’ Association and sponsors. Students interact with native speakers.
In Kingston, representatives of the Embassy of Spain and other Missions of Spanish-speaking countries set up booths that showcase pertinent facts about each country. Many leave with novelty items provided by the diplomats. Students visit each booth interacting with embassy representatives and having their ‘passports’ stamped.
The interactive, exciting and dynamic CSEC Orals workshops which began in 2012 in Kingston with 150 participating students now see over 1,300 students practicing with native speakers, trained CSEC teachers and pre-service teachers.
In 2020, although many face-to-face activities were curtailed, the training sessions were boosted by the use of online platforms, to reach not only Jamaican students, but students across CARICOM. Over 1000 students from Jamaica, and countries such as Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Belize benefitted from the workshops.
