Spanish Carol Concerts with donations
Category: Support for Spanish (Teaching and Learning)
Spanish Carol Concerts are held in Kingston, and since 2018, also in St James. Native speakers (including representatives from Missions of Spanish-speaking countries) and Spanish teachers work with students to prepare Carols, Poems, and Scripture verses related to the Christmas season. Students with special needs also participate by presenting instrumental pieces.
Students are asked to donate non-perishable food items which are later handed over to a Home on the North Coast.
The 2021 online Carol Concert featured performances from Sam Sharpe, Church and Shortwood Teachers’ Colleges; Portmore Missionary Prep School; schools working with the Embassies of Spain, Chile and Mexico; and instrumental pieces by special needs students of the Promise Leaning Centre and Genesis Academy. Students from across the island attended and enjoyed the pre-recorded performances. Videos and lyrics of the songs were uploaded to a Google Drive folder accessible to teachers, students, and other SJF stakeholders. The SJF gave books and novelty items to the students of the Kingston Technical High School, that worked with the Embassy of Spain.
